Is It Good Or Bad To Have More Than One Business?

I come across people who either own a brick and mortar business or work for someone. I hear, “How can you make one business work if you do too many.” You have no focus. Of course my answer to this would be; I hate being bored.

Why not have more than one stream of income. Look at what happened to so many people who had their own business or worked for someone else and the company went under…. Oops no net! Then there are the natural disasters, like Katrina. Many people lost their jobs and homes, but those who were in businesses that paid a residual income; survived. Their homes may be gone, but the money still came in.

I do think jumping from business to business is not good. Pick something and stay with it. If you add another, that is great. A good way to keep your focus is to split up your day or week for one company at a time. I have six streams of income and that may sound like too much. I feel each compliment one another. Three are non-residual and three are residual. I find when my non-residuals are down, I have my residuals to keep me going. They fall under Art, Health and Travel. As long as I stay focused on one business at a time, my life runs smoothly and I never feel like it’s too much.

If you look at the top business people in the world, none of them do just one thing. Many may primarily stay in the same industry, with an exception or two. Examples would be, an actor who also writes, directs, produces, endorses products and may own a restaurant. A chef who owns restaurants, is on TV, writes books, and has a line of kitchenware. A gym owner who also markets nutritional supplements, has a video line, etc. As you can see the list can go on and on…

Many successful Network Marketers will create videos, books, e-books and seminars.

As I mentioned in my last article, set goals and follow a to-do list. Having more than one stream of income is a very good thing.

Top 3 Ways To Make A Change In What You Are Doing And How You Need To Do It.

If you find that what you are doing is not getting results. CHANGE, what you are doing. But your up-line said; you need to do these steps to get to the TOP. You may find that those steps worked for about a week. Then you are already frustrated, because your doing everything you were told to do and you are not getting the same results your up-line is getting. I’ll say it again, CHANGE, what you are doing.

There are so many ways to work your business. If you are getting results by doing the structured steps so many MLM’s have set for you to follow; great. But if you feel that, cold calling, knocking on doors, dropping sizzle cards, sending out postcards, etc. is failing, then move on to the computer.

You hear and see this everywhere; BRANDING. Now when I first read this, I always thought it needed to be a business. The business would have a logo designed and then put out in signage and print for everyone to see and eventually recognize,

But when you are in an MLM, you cannot use the logo your company has because, it’s theirs and you are only allowed to use the logo with permission and on certain things. So your business is not BRANDED. You Need To Brand You.

BRANDING YOURSELF is how you are going to get recognized. This is where the CHANGE comes. Start to put yourself out where everyone can see your face or if you are a bit shy, they should then recognize your name.

The 3 Top ways to get YOU out there are.

1. Social Networks
2. Business Networks
3. Video Networks.

Take advantage of all of them. They all will take some work, but I find it’s a lot more fun doing all of them

I Love To Network

Over the past four year’s, I’ve been going to network groups. There were two I attended often. Over time I checked out others and lately I have been attending four to five on a regular basis. One of my decisions this New Years was to add a few more groups to the mix. I say decision, because people break resolutions and rarely will break a decision.

Why go to networking meetings. Why not; they are a great way to meet new people and build relationships. When you build relationships and they may not need your services, but you may know others that do and in turn you too will get lots of referrals. When you give, your company will then grow too.

What types of Networking groups I attend. Mostly FREE. And there are some that have dues, but can attend a couple of times before joining. I feel the free groups are just as good, if not better. One of my favorite groups is Free International Networking. This group has a structure, the normal 30 second business intro, a gratitude section and a valuable brainstorming/consulting segment that will help grow your business.

If you have never been to a networking group you can find them on-line. One of the best places to look, is MeetUp.com. FNI is all over, so I'm sure you can find one that is in your home town. I live in the Orlando area, and another great source is Orlando Connections.

Now if you do live in the Central FL area or if you would like to visit, there is a fantastic symposium coming up on January 16th with Performance Magazine and National Publisher Jeffrey Magee. Registration is on line at www.orlandoperformancemagazine.com for Experience Symposium "Taking Control in Hard Times" listed under breaking news at the top of the page. Ed Mercer Billionaire, Teri Yanovitch and Colonel (Ret.) Danny McKnight are just a few that will be speaking.

If you are looking for business in whatever you do, I suggest you find some networking groups to attend.
